About Unite for Change

United Hands Together

Our Mission

The Unite for Change Committee was established in 2025 in response to years of ongoing member concerns about our current union representation. Our mission is to lead a respectful, transparent, and member-driven process focused on securing stronger representation that truly reflects the needs of our members.

Comprising 12 committee members — 6 Educational Resource Workers (ERWs) and 6 Designated Early Childhood Educators (DECEs)— the committee is dedicated to keeping members informed and protected at every stage. We provide clear, factual information and explain how members are safeguarded by law, ensuring that rights, agreements, and workplace protections remain secure.

As part of our commitment to strong, effective representation, we are actively working with OPSEU to explore opportunities for improved bargaining support. Above all, we are dedicated to empowering members, fostering confidence, and ensuring everyone feels informed, supported, and involved as we work together toward a stronger future.

Stay Informed: Members who wish to join our list for change can submit their information at the bottom of this page. If you have already submitted your information via email, there is no need to submit it again.

Join Our List for Change!

**Joining the list for change is not your official vote; it is only the first step! We must collect this information to ensure we have the support of 60% of our total membership to file an application for change from DPERWA to OPSEU. Once the threshold is met, OPSEU will submit the application on our behalf to the Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB). If successful, the OLRB will contact all of DPERWA's membership via their board email to hold an official digital vote for union change (50% + 1 of this final vote is needed to change unions...for example, if only 10 people vote and 6 voted "yes", the change moves forward!). Before submitting your information, you may want to visit the "About OPSEU / Protections" tab in the menu at the top of this page. It clearly explains how everything you currently have — wages, benefits, pension, job security, etc. — will be fully protected by law!**
